TWO more buildings under construction have collapsed in Asaba, the Delta State capital, bringing to three, the number of such collapsed structures within one week.<\/p>\n

A one storey building under construction located on Victor Anene Bossua Street, behind the state High Court complex had earlier collapsed last week. Two other storey buildings sited at different locations collapsed two days ago.<\/p>\n

Deputy Chief Inspector of Asaba Inspectorate of the Engineering Regulation Monitoring, ERM, team of Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, COREN, Engr. Benedict Aloku, led a team of inspectors and journalists to the collapsed sites on Monday. It was, however, not immediately ascertained whether there was any casualty when the buildings gave way.<\/p>\n

One of the newly collapsed storey buildings is located adjacent the new General Hospital complex and the other situated along Zulu Drive, in the outskirts of Asaba.<\/p>\n

Speaking to reporters, Aloku, said, \u201cit is unfortunate that each time a building collapses, they point accusing fingers at the engineers. It is very surprising. We have been crying and shouting, that people should ensure that they follow due process of proper designs but they have not been doing so.<\/p>\n

\u201cAll the collapsed buildings we had visited within this one week, lacked designs and good constructional methods and at the end of the day,\u00a0 you will discovered that all the materials\u00a0 used\u00a0 are not the right materials for such buildings,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
