The leadership of the governing National Democratic Congress (NDC) has confirmed receipt of a letter from the campaign team of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, alleging intimidation from the camp of her main opponent, President John Evans Atta Mills.<\/p>\n
Supporters of the former first lady including NDC Founder and former President Jerry John Rawlings and MP for Lower Manya Michael Teye Nyaunu have claimed on several platforms that President Mills\u2019 supporters continue to bribe and \/or intimidate delegates who declare support for the candidature of Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings.<\/p>\n
They have alleged that delegates have been bribed with cash and motorbikes whiles others have been threatened with dismissals from the various assemblies if they fail to support President Mills\u2019 re-election bid.<\/p>\n
The Propaganda Secretary of the NDC, Richard Quarshigah confirmed to Citi News the receipt of a petition from the Nana Konadu camp. He however noted that the petition failed to mention names or provide concrete evidence to support the claims of bribery and intimidation to assist in investigations.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is true that Nana Konadu\u2019s camp has written to that effect. And that is in line with the guidelines which say that any contestant who feels aggrieved at any time prior to the elections can make a formal complaint to the party\u2019s electoral committee. If indeed one camp is intimidating the other, the party frowns on it\u201d he noted.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have received this letter but clearly it does not help us with the names of those who intimidated who in Nana Konadu\u2019s camp. That would have gone a long way to help the investigation process. However, the National executives have taken note of it and have positively responded to the complaint and has assured them of taking the necessary steps to ensure that there is fairness on all sides before the July 8 Congress\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
