The Federal Capital Territory Minister, Senator Bala Mohammed, on Tuesday revoked an abandoned N27m contract for a block of eight classrooms in Government Science and Technical College, Area 3, Garki, Abuja.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Minister, who took the decision after commissioning a rehabilitated library as part of \u201cThe Bring Back The Book\u201d initiative in the school, insisted the way things were done in the country must change for the better.<\/span><\/p>\n

Mohammed said the contract was awarded to M\/s Ell Services Nigeria Limited in 2009 and was to have been completed within a period of 36 weeks.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Minister, directed that the contract be re-awarded to another contractor, M\/s B. Chons Nigeria Limited currently handling a laboratory complex in the school, awarded in 2010 but nearing completion.<\/span><\/p>\n

While commissioning the newly refurbished and equipped library, the Minister assured that the FCT administration intended to build more modern libraries across the FCT to encourage students to imbibe a reading culture.<\/span><\/p>\n

He said FCT Administration would deliver sound institutional framework that would improve the quality of education and enable FCT pupils\/students to take their proper position amongst their peers globally.<\/span><\/p>\n

The minister called for self re-examination by all stakeholders by taking the challenge of \u201cThe Bring Back the Book\u201d initiative to improve the standard of education.<\/span><\/p>\n

Welcoming guests to the occasion, the Principal, GSTC, Mrs. Christophine Nnabuife, commended the minister for his uncommon strides in the area of education and for making the FCT schools conducive for both teaching and learning.<\/span><\/p>\n

According to her, the college was contributing greatly to the middle level manpower needed in the Nigeria economy.<\/span><\/p>\n

She said, \u201cThe graduates of various trades in the college such as electronic works, refrigerator and air-conditioning, electrical installation, ladies\u2019 garment -making, computer craft and so on, are employed as artisans and some, who are not able to proceed to higher institutions practise on their own and even employ others, thereby assisting in reducing the problems of unemployment in the country.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
