Ledley King<\/a> is set to delay retirement by another year at Tottenham<\/a> but Sebastien Bassong<\/a> and Jonathan Woodgate<\/a> are heading for the White Hart Lane exit door.<\/p>\n

<\/span><\/p>\n

Spurs are ready to overhaul their central defence this summer as they attempt to reduce the wage bill after missing out on qualification for next season\u2019s Champions League.<\/span><\/p>\n

Goal.com<\/strong> understands that Bassong could even be prepared to hand in a transfer request to engineer his exit from the club after falling out of favour with manager Harry Redknapp.<\/span><\/p>\n

He held talks with the Spurs manager last week about his future and another meeting is scheduled with chairman Daniel Levy on Wednesday.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sources have told Goal.com<\/strong> that Woodgate will be told to find another club unless Redknapp can persuade Levy when the pair sit down later this week that there is a strong case for the injury-plagued centre-half to be handed a new contract.<\/span><\/p>\n

However, club captain King, who made an outstanding return to the team in Sunday\u2019s 2-0 win at Liverpool following seven months on the sidelines, is poised to see out the final year of his contract.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

There were fears within White Hart Lane that the England international might have to hang up his boots as he struggled to recover from a groin injury on top of his long-term knee problems. King has made only eight appearances this season.<\/p>\n

But Redknapp persuaded the 30-year-old to make his comeback at Anfield and the lifelong Spur is now convinced he will have a more prominent role to play next season.<\/span><\/p>\n

Nevertheless, Redknapp knows King can only be relied upon for occasional appearances and that he needs some quality back-up for Michael Dawson, William Gallas and Younes Kaboul.<\/span><\/p>\n

Woodgate, whose contract expires next month, has played just four times in the last two seasons while Bassong has lost his regular starting spot to Gallas this season after an encouraging first campaign in north London. He will be sold if Spurs receive an offer in excess of \u00a36 million.<\/span><\/p>\n

As revealed by Goal.com<\/strong>, Redknapp scouted \u00a315m-rated Paris Saint-Germain centre-half Mamadou Sakho in the French Cup final on Saturday night.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe have some players to shift now, we have players on loan who will be coming back and I’m looking for a good frontman if I can find one,\u201d said Redknapp.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cI went to the cup final in France on Saturday night and I’m going to go abroad two or three times this week and keep following up leads and see what we come up with.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cIt’s very difficult finding better than what you’ve already got. This is Jonathan’s last year. He hasn’t played for two years and I have to speak to Jonathan but it is going to be difficult.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cLedley has got another year. The problem for him is he has a chronic knee injury but it is not the knee which has been the problem – although it stops him training – it’s been a groin injury.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cNow it is whether he has an operation or whether we try to nurse him – I don’t know what the answer is going to be.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n
