{"id":425351,"date":"2011-05-17T06:27:25","date_gmt":"2011-05-17T06:27:25","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/05\/17\/police-set-for-2012-elections\/"},"modified":"2011-05-17T06:27:25","modified_gmt":"2011-05-17T06:27:25","slug":"police-set-for-2012-elections","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/05\/17\/police-set-for-2012-elections\/","title":{"rendered":"Police Set for 2012 Elections"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"28.6249612883\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>Concord Times (Freetown)<\/p>\n<p>Alusine Sesay<\/p>\n<p>16 May 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>Freetown \u2014 Western Area regional commander of the Sierra Leone police has affirmed to newsmen at the weekly ministry of Information press briefing that the force was putting strategies in place on how to manage the upcoming 2012 general elections.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant Inspector-General Philip Wellington disclosed that the SLP was currently engaged in what he referred to as rigorous internal training of its personnel on how to handle the process come 2012.<\/p>\n<p>Police officers, he said, were not politicians and should not carry party cards, maintaining that they will always uphold the culture of neutrality.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;We are not politicians and therefore should not carry party membership cards. We are expected to be neutral in our dealings with political issues,&#8221; he reiterated.<\/p>\n<p>AIG Wellington said members of the public should not hesitate to criticise the work of the police, noting that &#8220;we are all human beings and we are liable to mistakes&#8221;.
