LAGOS-WORKERS in the nation\u2019s petroleum sector have asked the National Assembly to halt all processes leading to the passage of the Petroleum Industry Bill, PIB, until after May 29, 2011, expressing fears that the rush and controversy surrounding alleged demand for\u00a0 $10 million gratification before passage of the Bill could lead to a shoddy job.<\/p>\n

Under the umbrella of the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG, the workers argued that there should be\u00a0 no haste over the passage\u00a0 by the outgoing National Assembly, adding that\u00a0 people should not be paid gratification for doing their constitutional assignment.<\/p>\n

General Secretary of NUPENG, Comrade Elijah Okougbo, in an interview, argued that there were several unresolved issues about PIB, especially the reports of numerous versions in the National Assembly, noting that it should be better left for the incoming National Assembly to do a thorough job that would benefit the nation.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cIt appears that nothing has changed with the outgoing legislators about bribe allegations. I think they should leave them aside and let the new legislators come in. At least, some unionists and those that have union background are coming into the National Assembly.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
