{"id":425044,"date":"2011-05-16T12:47:47","date_gmt":"2011-05-16T12:47:47","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/05\/16\/illegal-forest-exploitation-denounced\/"},"modified":"2011-05-16T12:47:47","modified_gmt":"2011-05-16T12:47:47","slug":"illegal-forest-exploitation-denounced","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/05\/16\/illegal-forest-exploitation-denounced\/","title":{"rendered":"Illegal Forest Exploitation Denounced"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"43.3066100345\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.cameroon-tribune.cm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/allafrica.com\/img\/static\/publishers\/minibanners\/camtribune180.jpg\" alt=\"Cameroon Tribune (Yaound\u00e9)\" title=\"Visit Cameroon Tribune (Yaound\u00e9)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>George Mbella<\/p>\n<p>15 May 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><em>Gross violations of laws governing forest exploitation have been reported in the Haut Nyong and Haut Sanaga Divisions in the East and Centre Regions respectively, in spite of deterrent measures put in place by the Ministry of Forestry and Wildlife, MINFOF.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Presenting the findings of the Local Independent Forest Observers Support Project in a two-day workshop that ended last Thursday, May 12 in Yaounde, Ang\u00e8le Amkoh, a facilitator, said exploitation of wood without permit, intense poaching activities, influence peddling by elite, fraudulent use of forest exploitation licences, abandonment of logs, non-respect of felling rules and unauthorised exploitation in non-permanent forest domains, amongst others, are carried out by a vast majority of forest exploiters operating in council forests, community forests and other forest domains in areas investigated such as Lomi\u00e9, Abong Mbang, Dja, Messamena and Nanga Eboko.<\/p>\n<p>According to the coordinator of the project, Christiane Tobith Nzengue, the negative consequences on the communities are enormous. &#8220;Economically, illegal exploitation of wood has led to road degradation and the destruction of farms and plantations,&#8221; she said.
