Abuja \u2013 Vice President Namadi Sambo on Saturday charged members-elect into the House of Representatives to lay a good foundation for the development of Nigeria.<\/p>\n

Sambo gave the advice at a meeting of the seventh Assembly Green Initiative (AGI) in Abuja.<\/p>\n

The AGI is a 260-member multiparty caucus of first term members-elect of the House comprising those from all parties.<\/p>\n

He said there was a need for the members to create a new Nigeria by laying a solid foundation.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe need to create a new Nigeria. We have the opportunity now to lay the foundation for a strong Nigeria that should see us through the next 50 years,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

He said the collaborative efforts of the legislature and the executive would further enhance the development of the country.<\/p>\n

He urged members to effectively utilise the opportunity given to them to serve their people.<\/p>\n

He reiterated government\u2019s readiness to carry everyone along, irrespective of party and religious affiliations.<\/p>\n

\u201c I want to assure you that this administration will be a unifying administration.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt is an administration that will have an open door for all members of the House of Representatives and the Senate,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

In a remark, Dr Abdul Jibrin, a member-elect and Co-ordinator of AGI, said the meeting was convened to commence the process of discussion and agenda setting for the development of the country.<\/p>\n

Jibrin said the group would screen every member aspiring to lead the House as it would not compromise its unity and integrity.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will not compromise, we will screen candidates, they will tell us what they have for first timers,\u2019\u2019 he said.<\/p>\n

He gave the assurance that the house would work with the executive towards the development of the country.<\/p>\n

Rep. Muraina Ajibola (PDP-Oyo), an aspirant to the speaker position of the House, enjoined members-elect to take the retreat put together for them at the six geo-political zones seriously.<\/p>\n

He said the retreat would equip them to contribute meaningful to lawmaking.<\/p>\n

Ajibola reminded them that they owed the country a duty to carry it to greater heights among the comity of nations.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
