West Ham<\/a> co-owner David Gold has revealed he wished he managed matters differently after the club suffered relegation from the Premier League.<\/p>\n

A 3-2 defeat to relegation candidates Wigan, a match in which West Ham squandered a 2-0 half-time lead, led to the sacking of manager Avram Grant and demotion into the Championship.<\/p>\n

The Israeli\u2019s position at Upton Park had come under threat, most notably in January when Martin O\u2019Neill was strongly linked with the role before backing out.<\/p>\n

West Ham now face a potential squad overhaul in the summer, as well as settling with Grant as the 56-year-old had signed a four-year deal upon his arrival at the club last June.<\/p>\n

“This is undoubtedly the worst moment in all the years I’ve been supporting West Ham and of course I wish I’d done things differently,\u201d Gold wrote on Twitter<\/em>.<\/p>\n

“I honestly believed with the players we brought in in January, plus the imminent return of Thomas Hitzlsperger, we had done enough to pull clear of danger.<\/p>\n

“I know that Scotty Parker shared that belief with me and we both had confidence that we would retain our Premiership status.\u201d
