{"id":424681,"date":"2011-05-16T04:45:02","date_gmt":"2011-05-16T04:45:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/05\/16\/finnish-court-to-return-to-country-over-genocide-case\/"},"modified":"2011-05-16T04:45:02","modified_gmt":"2011-05-16T04:45:02","slug":"finnish-court-to-return-to-country-over-genocide-case","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/05\/16\/finnish-court-to-return-to-country-over-genocide-case\/","title":{"rendered":"Finnish Court to Return to Country Over Genocide Case"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"31.2753270459\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.newtimes.co.rw\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/allafrica.com\/img\/static\/publishers\/minibanners\/newtimes180.jpg\" alt=\"The New Times (Kigali)\" title=\"Visit The New Times (Kigali)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>James Karuhanga<\/p>\n<p>16 May 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>Kigali \u2014 Fresh reports say a Finnish court plans to conduct hearings in Rwanda and Zambia as part of an appeal case filed by Fran\u00e7ois Bazaramba, who is convicted of involvement in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi.<\/p>\n<p>According to the reports, Justice Elisabeth Bygglin of the Helsinki Court of Appeal said that the hearing which requires approval from the authorities in those countries was likely take place in October.<\/p>\n<p>Bygglin is one of three judges set to hear the appeal case in which about 50 witnesses are reportedly likely to be heard in the appeal case.<\/p>\n<p>Bazaramba sought asylum in Finland, in 2003.<\/p>\n<p>He was convicted on two charges; intent to destroy the Tutsi population in Maraba, and spreading malicious propaganda calling for their extermination, crimes for which he was handed a life sentence.<\/p>\n<p>He is said to have masterminded the killing of over 5,000 people in Nyakizu, Southern Province.<\/p>\n<p>Bazaramba allegedly organised and maintained night patrols and road blocks, forcing the Tutsi to leave their homes.
