{"id":424495,"date":"2011-05-16T02:31:35","date_gmt":"2011-05-16T02:31:35","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/05\/16\/kenya-nyakundi-zooms-past-rivals\/"},"modified":"2011-05-16T02:31:35","modified_gmt":"2011-05-16T02:31:35","slug":"kenya-nyakundi-zooms-past-rivals","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/05\/16\/kenya-nyakundi-zooms-past-rivals\/","title":{"rendered":"Kenya: Nyakundi Zooms Past Rivals"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"48.364978903\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nation.co.ke\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/allafrica.com\/img\/static\/publishers\/minibanners\/nation180.jpg\" alt=\"The Nation (Nairobi)\" title=\"Visit The Nation (Nairobi)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Philip Onyango<\/p>\n<p>14 May 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>Nairobi \u2014 Footballer-turned-athlete Wellington Nyakundi continued his brilliant performance on Saturday, clocking 22.8 seconds to win the 200 metres as the National Bank of Kenya-sponsored fifth weekend athletics meeting wound up at Shanzu Teachers College, Mombasa.<\/p>\n<p>Nyakundi, a former striker with Nationwide League sides Jomvu Super Stars and Administration Police who is now a prisons officer, also helped his Kenya Prisons team to to come tops in the 4x400m relay after finishing third in the 100m in 11.3.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I am enjoying athletics and I want to make sure I make the All Africa Games team in the 200m and 100m before switching to the 400m race next year,&#8221; said the 31-year-old sprinter, who represented Kenya in the relays at the Commonwealth Games in New Delhi, India, last year.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Clean sweep for Kenya Police<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Nyakundi was closely followed by colleague Stephen Barasa (23.0) while Boniface Kangai (23.1) of Moi Air Base was third.<\/p>\n<p>It was a clean sweep for Kenya Police in the 4x100m women&#8217;s relay, won by Joy Zackary, who is making a strong comeback after a two-year layoff.<\/p>\n<p>Zackary clocked 25.6, ahead of Millicent Ndoro (26.3) and Maryline Chelangat (26.6).<\/p>\n<p>World and Olympic 800m champion Pamela Jelimo found the going tough in the 400m, finishing third in 57.2 behind the winner, Ugandan Agnes Aneno, who clocked 56.4 and Posta&#8217;s Grace Kidaki (56.7).<\/p>\n<p>The men&#8217;s 400m was won by Moses Keritich (48.4), followed by Kennedy Chepsiror (48.7) and Gilbert Ngeno (49.0).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Completed her double<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Zackary (12.6) completed her double with a 100m victory ahead of Millicent Ndoro (12.8) and Maryline Chelagat (13.0).<\/p>\n<p>Prisons&#8217; Collins Mulaa (10.9) won the men&#8217;s 100m, followed by Simon Kimaru (11.1) of GSU and Wellington Nyakundi (11.3).<\/p>\n<p>In women&#8217;s shot put, Jackline Nyongesa of Prisons won with an 11.95 metres throw, beating Roseline Rakamba (10.97m) of Laikipia Air Base and Caroline Cherop (10.9) of GSU.<\/p>\n<p>The top five finishers were awarded with cash and T-shirts by the sponsors.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<fieldset>\n<legend align=\"center\"><strong>More News on allAfrica.com<\/strong><\/legend>\n<\/fieldset>\n<p>AllAfrica &#8211; All the Time<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>Visit link:<br \/>\n<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/allafrica.com\/stories\/201105160143.html\" title=\"Kenya: Nyakundi Zooms Past Rivals\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Kenya: Nyakundi Zooms Past Rivals<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> Philip Onyango 14 May 2011 Nairobi \u2014 Footballer-turned-athlete Wellington Nyakundi continued his brilliant performance on Saturday, clocking 22.8 seconds to win the 200 metres as the National Bank of Kenya-sponsored fifth weekend athletics meeting wound up at Shanzu Teachers College, Mombasa.
