The National Peace and Unity Forum, NPUF, yesterday in Lagos\u00a0 urged the panel set up to investigate\u00a0 the post-election violence that occurred in some parts of the country to recommend prosecution and jail sentences to perpetrators.<\/p>\n

The group in a statement by Chief Perry Opara, its National Secretary, noted that it was satisfied with the members of the panel, congratulating President Goodluck Jonthan for his forthrightness in setting up the panel.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe NPUF call on the panel to recommend prosecution and jail sentences to culprits of the 2011 post- election violence in cities of Nigeria,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

President Jonathan last week inaugurated a 22-member committee to investigate the pre-election violence in Akwa Ibom State and post-election violence in some Northern states of the federation.<\/p>\n

Opara advised the panel not to be like other panels which recommendations were abandoned, adding that it should include punitive measures and proactive plans to prevent future occurence.<\/p>\n

He argued that Jonathan\u2019s prompt engagements of security agencies during the attack, after the elections, made him spectacular.<\/p>\n

\u201cNPUF characterised his conduct as edifying and spectacular, which has set him apart as a President for all times,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

Opara, who sympathised with affected families, INEC and the Federal Government over\u00a0 slain NYSC members, called for the entrenchment of bipartisan culture in the nation\u2019s political psyche.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe reason NPUF is calling for a bipartisan culture is so that the creation\u00a0 and augmentation of natural wealth become unassailable national objectives, irrespective of whoever emerges winner after every electoral contest,\u201d he aaded.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
