Carlos Tevez<\/a> at Eastlands.<\/p>\nThe Argentinean was the subject of much controversy after City rejected his request to leave earlier this season but Marwood is confident that recent events will change his mind.<\/p>\n
City landed the FA Cup after defeating Stoke City 1-0 at Wembley on Saturday after also nailing a place in next season\u2019s Champions League in midweek following a 1-0 win over Tottenham.<\/p>\n
Marwood insists that the club now has what it takes to be a viable challenger to Manchester
United, who clinched a record 19th title a few hours before City’s Cup final win.<\/p>\n
He told BBC Radio 5 Live\u2019s Sportsweek<\/em> programme: “We are working hard to keep Carlos Tevez, as we are with everybody.<\/p>\n“I just hope Carlos reflects on the season, reflects on yesterday, reflects on the fact we are going to be playing Champions League football and thinks ‘this is something I want to be part of’.<\/p>\n
“That is up to Carlos to think through in the summer. You would like to think Manchester City is going to be an interesting place over the next few years.<\/p>\n
“Carlos asked for a transfer in January and the club refused that. He is a massive player for us.<\/p>\n
“He is our captain, he is our top goalscorer. Everyone can see that when he steps over that white line he gives everything.<\/p>\n
“He came into the final yesterday having just recovered from a very nasty hamstring injury but once again showed great leadership qualities.<\/p>\n
“We believe we can sustain a challenge not just on Manchester United but Arsenal, Liverpool, who will be much stronger next season and Spurs.<\/p>\n
\u201cThey have a fantastic squad and will probably make one or two changes.<\/p>\n
“I believe it is going to be a very exciting Premier League next season. We feel we are in a good position to compete.\u201d
