Blackpool will fight to the end – Holloway<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

Blackpool boss Ian Holloway believes his side can win at Manchester United next weekend and give themselves a chance of avoiding relegation.<\/p>\n

Despite beating Bolton 4-3 on Saturday<\/a>, the Seasiders remain in the bottom three, meaning they are likely to need a win next Sunday to stay up.<\/p>\n

“I believe we can do it, whoever they United put out,” said Holloway.<\/p>\n

“Maybe the main man up there has written a story that would probably beat Cinderella.”<\/p>\n

Holloway’s side gave themselves a fighting chance of survival courtesy of their astonishing victory over Bolton, during which they initially fell behind and were then pegged back twice before Charlie Adam’s 63rd-minute winner.<\/p>\n

However, the shine was somewhat taken off by Wolves’ 3-1 victory at Sunderland<\/a> on Saturday, which ensured that the Seasiders remain in the relegation zone with 39 points from 37 games.<\/p>\n

They are level on points with Birmingham, who have played a game less and have a better goal difference, and trail both Wolves and Blackburn by a point.<\/p>\n

Holloway brushed off the disappointment of Wolves’ result, saying: “All that matters is the dignity, the pride we’ve showed, getting back on track.<\/p>\n

“That’s four games unbeaten, and anyone who’s seen the last four games can tell that Blackpool are back and looking like we did at the start of the season. That was really important to us.<\/p>\n

“Blow me down with this fairytale we’re all on, this story that has been unfolding for the last two years. We’ve got to go to Manchester United and probably get a win, and that might not even be enough.<\/p>\n

“I believe it will be, though, because Wolves are at home to Blackburn.”<\/p>\n

At the same time as Blackpool were on route to beating Bolton, Manchester United were gaining the point they required at Blackburn to seal a 19th league title.<\/p>\n

However, despite requiring nothing from next Sunday’s game against Blackpool, United manager Sir Alex Ferguson insisted his side will set out to win – although he admitted he may rest some players with the Champions League final against Barcelona to come on 28 May.<\/p>\n

“It gives us a real opportunity to look at how we can rest players and who needs to keep going,” said Ferguson.<\/p>\n

Coyle deflated by defensive display<\/p>\n<\/div>\n

“We have a responsibility to make sure we are fair to all clubs in the country who are struggling relegation.<\/p>\n

“Manchester United will try to win next Sunday, there is no doubt about that.”<\/p>\n

Saturday’s game at Bloomfield Road was a classic, with two attack-minded teams capitalising on poor defending.<\/p>\n

The first half in particular was end to end, with Blackpool starting the better but then going behind in the sixth minute when Kevin Davies struck.<\/p>\n

Good finishes from DJ Campbell and Jason Puncheon put the home side ahead, only for Matt Taylor to fire in an equaliser for the visitors.<\/p>\n

However, Campbell scored his second goal, from an Adam cross, to give the home side a half-time lead.<\/p>\n

Daniel Sturridge brought Bolton level for a second time in the game, before Adam lashed in a decisive strike in the 63rd minute.<\/p>\n

“It was quite breathtaking. That really does sum up our season,” said Holloway.<\/p>\n

“We started so brilliantly, the crowd were with us, Bolton passed it and moved it and then got a goal, probably against the run of play, and we’re one down.<\/p>\n

“But the fans were terrific, the lads kept going; that’s what we looked like last year and we’ve managed to look like that this year in the top level in the world.”<\/p>\n

Bolton boss Owen Coyle praised his side’s battling spirit but admitted they were made to pay for some poor defending.<\/p>\n

“I felt we did more than enough certainly to be leaving with a point but if you’re going to defend the way we did in the first half then you’re going to pay a heavy price,” admitted the Scot.<\/p>\n

“We dominated the second half, they’ve scored on the break with a great finish but we kept pushing on and we had chances to get the equaliser, but we didn’t take them.”<\/p>\n

Today’s result made it four defeats on the spin for Bolton, who are at risk of tarnishing what has been a promising season under Coyle.<\/p>\n

However, Coyle felt his side did not get the rub of the green on Saturday and felt some of the officials decisions went against them.<\/p>\n

“It was Blackpool’s day and all credit to them, they were clinical, but I thought they got the bounce of the ball and the little decisions,” he added.<\/p>\n

“I’m always loath to see players sent off in games but Gary Taylor-Fletcher’s had a terrible lunge at Chung-Yong Lee right on the edge of the box.<\/p>\n

“The officials have let that go, then two minutes later Gary Cahill is booked for a challenge on Charlie Adam. If they’re going to book Gary Cahill then I find it beyond belief that Gary Taylor-Fletcher stayed on the pitch.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
