{"id":423830,"date":"2011-05-13T12:01:05","date_gmt":"2011-05-13T12:01:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/05\/13\/south-africa-concerned-about-attacks-on-libya\/"},"modified":"2011-05-13T12:01:05","modified_gmt":"2011-05-13T12:01:05","slug":"south-africa-concerned-about-attacks-on-libya","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/05\/13\/south-africa-concerned-about-attacks-on-libya\/","title":{"rendered":"South Africa Concerned About Attacks On Libya"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"40.5486456606\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.buanews.gov.za\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">BuaNews<\/a> (Tshwane)<\/p>\n<p>Francis Hweshe<\/p>\n<p>13 May 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>Cape Town \u2014 South Africa has expressed concern over the ongoing military bombardment of Libya by Western powers.<\/p>\n<p>This came out on Thursday during a public lecture by the International Relations and Cooperation Deputy minister Marius Fransman at the University of the Western Cape.<\/p>\n<p>His interactive address with a group of keen students and academics looked at the country&#8217;s role in the global arena.<\/p>\n<p>Students wanted to know what the &#8220;No fly Zone&#8221; resolution over Libya meant, as South Africa supported the UN Security Council, yet the country was being bombed by the West and civilians were dying.<\/p>\n<p>Fransman said that they were concerned about the Libyan situation and would not support regime change there.<\/p>\n<p>They also wanted to know the country&#8217;s position on removing sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe, which they said were affecting ordinary people and not the targeted elite.<\/p>\n<p>Fransman said that they were against sanctions and were regularly raising the matter with various embassies.<\/p>\n<p>Locally, concerns about the lack of transformation in the education system were raised by the group of students and academics.<\/p>\n<p>In his address, he raised concerns about the education system in South Africa.
