THE National cricket team flew out to South Africa on Friday morning brimming with confidence and promised to perform wonders in the six-day ICC Africa Twenty20 Division 2 tournament, which starts on Saturday in Benoni.<\/p>\n

The 18-man contingent, that includes 14 players, team coach, team manager, doctor and an umpire, left on Friday ahead the tournament.<\/p>\n

Tanzania will open its campaign against Rwanda today and skipper Hamisi Abdallah bragged shortly before departure, saying his side’s experience at the ICC World Cricket League Division 4 will help the team gain promotion from the tournament.<\/p>\n

Abdallah hopes his side is capable of taking a step closer to the ICC World Twenty20 2012 set for Sri Lanka.<\/p>\n

The team has been training in the past month and Abdallah believes that the drills that they underwent under their coach Zully Rehemtullah will give the team an advantage over its rivals. Besides Tanzania, eight teams are in contention and they include Botswana, Sierra Leone, Mozambique, Malawi, Ghana, Nigeria, and Swaziland.<\/p>\n

Tanzania squad include Hamisi Abdallah (Captain), Benson Mwita, Khalil Rehemtulla, Abhik Patwa, Issa Kikasi, Kasimu Nassoro, Riziki Kiseto, Harsh Ramaiya, Vishal Patel, Zamoyoni Ramadhani, Enjo Sethi, Rashidi Amri, Sephu Khalifa and Ally Mpeka Zully Rehemtullah (Coach), Taher Kitisa (Team Manager), Juma Mankemwa (Doctor) Lucy Mayunga (Umpire).<\/p>\n

The event is one of several regional qualifying events for next year’s T20 World Cup that will be hosted by Sri Lanka. The top two qualifiers will proceed to the ICC – Africa T20 Premier League which is scheduled to be held in Nairobi, Kenya in mid July.<\/p>\n

The Nairobi event will also draw teams from Uganda, Namibia, South Africa (emerging), Zimbabwe (emerging) and hosts Kenya.<\/p>\n

The highest placed Associate\/ Affiliate member progresses to ICC World Twenty20 global qualifiers to be played in UAE early in 2012.<\/p>\n
