NATIONAL Association of Seadogs, NAS, has called on the Independent Electoral Commission, INEC, to create more polling units in subsequent elections, saying that it would put an end to long queues in heavily populated areas.<\/p>\n

It also urged the commission to consider storing sensitive materials in Central Bank branches in the states and commercial banks in the 774 Local Government Areas, in order to curb the late arrival of electoral materials.<\/p>\n

Briefing newsmen\u00a0 in Lagos at the presentation of its Interim Report on the 2011 general elections, NAS,\u00a0 Election Monitoring Committee Chairman, Mr. Emmanuel Umoren called on\u00a0 INEC to ensure adequate security for its adhoc staff in subsequent elections.<\/p>\n

According to him, \u201cNAS is one of\u00a0 the 291 organizations accredited as domestic observers for the April polls. In future elections, census should be taken into cognizance in arranging registration and polling centres as we observed that some heavily-populated areas had few polling units, resulting in unnecessary long queues. Again, more equipment and personnel should be engaged.<\/p>\n

\u201cEfforts should be made at improving logistics. Materials and officials should arrive polling centres on time; election timetables should be strictly adhered to. Accreditation and voting should commence and end as at when specified\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
