SAMIA NKRUMAH, the only daughter of Ghana’s first President, Osagyefo Dr. Kwame Nkrumah, over the weekend escaped violent attacks from angry youth of the Convention Peoples Party (CPP) in the Ellembele Constituency.<\/p>\n
Information reaching The Chronicle indicates that the CPP stalwart, currently the Member of Parliament for Jomoro Constituency, was in the Ellembelle Constituency to grace the occasion of a constituency congress, which was meant to elect new constituency executives ahead of the party’s regional and national congresses, slated for September this year.<\/p>\n
However, reliable information indicates that a group of irate youth purported to have been mobilized by the parliamentary candidate of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), Mr. Francis Wilmont Bonzo, stormed the congress grounds and vandalized the scene, leaving dignitaries including some regional executives of the party running helter skelter.<\/p>\n
The reason for the action of the youth was not immediately known at the time of filing this report, but eye witnesses say the aspiring national chairman of the CPP had to take to her heels to escape the wrath of the angry youth.<\/p>\n
Mr. Joshuah Anyimiah, an activist in the constituency, confirmed this in an interview with the paper, stating that the anger of the youth as he understood it was borne out of the unending division in the CPP.<\/p>\n
He said the angry youth led by one John Wolley, who is vying for the constituency chairmanship of the party, with strong support from the camp of the former Member of Parliament of the Constituency, Mr. Freddie Blay, stormed the congress ground with one aim, to destroy and vandalize.<\/p>\n
He said representatives of other political parties who were present at the congress ground, could not fathom what actually was going on, except to remain silent.<\/p>\n
According to him, one Somiah Addai, son of the principal of Sefwi-Wiaso Training College in the Western Region, who is vying for the parliamentary candidature of the CPP slot in the Constituency, seems to be representing the camp of the CPP supporters who are genuine Nkrumaists, whilst the other side, which are supporters rallying behind John Wolley, an NPP-CPP member, strongly pushing the alliance of the CPP-NPP in the Constituency.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
