{"id":423345,"date":"2011-05-13T09:14:16","date_gmt":"2011-05-13T09:14:16","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/05\/13\/british-pm-endorses-opposition-to-gaddafi\/"},"modified":"2011-05-13T09:14:16","modified_gmt":"2011-05-13T09:14:16","slug":"british-pm-endorses-opposition-to-gaddafi","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/05\/13\/british-pm-endorses-opposition-to-gaddafi\/","title":{"rendered":"British PM Endorses Opposition to Gaddafi"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"36.4691322073\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>Number10.gov.uk (London)<\/p>\n<p>12 May 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>press release<\/p>\n<p>Prime Minister David Cameron has today held talks with Mustafa Abdul Jalil, chairman of the Libyan Interim National Transitional Council (NTC).<\/p>\n<p>During the meeting, Mr Cameron invited leaders of the Council to establish a formal office in London, as fighting in Libya continued.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Cameron said the UK presence in Benghazi would also be boosted.<\/p>\n<p>The PM said: \u201cThese steps continue our very clear intention to work with the council to ensure Libya has a safe and stable future, free from the tyranny of the Gaddafi regime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Cameron said the two leaders discussed events in Libya and how to build the future that the Libyan people deserved.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI have been struck again today by their bravery in standing up to a tyrant who is still today killing innocent people.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is impossible to imagine a real future for Libya with Gaddafi in power,\u201d he said, adding: \u201cThe council represents the future of Libya as much as Gaddafi represents its past.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Mr Jalil said he had come to London to express his gratitude to the British people and their Government \u201cfor their discipline and moral stand\u201d in supporting the rebellion.<\/p>\n<p>He said: \u201cThis stand was not based on any benefit that the British Government may derive from this support. It is a humanitarian position.
