Oshakati \u2014 A group of 22 children of the liberation struggle who were expelled from Berg Aukas in the Otjozondjupa Region in August last year, want to go and live in Angola where they were apparently born.<\/p>\n

Some of them gathered in front of the Angolan Consulate office at Oshakati on Monday morning where they met Angolan officials to register their demand.<\/p>\n

Officials of the Angolan diplomatic office refused members of the media to cover their discussions with the children of the liberation struggle.<\/p>\n

Spokesperson for the group, Thomas Mahoka told Nampa in an interview before the meeting that they want to live in Angola after they realised that the Namibian government has disowned them and continues to ignore their plight.<\/p>\n

“Maybe it is because we were not born in Namibia,” Mahoka charged, adding that they want the government of Angola, where they were born during the liberation struggle, to give the authorisation and transport them back to that country under refugee status.<\/p>\n

The ‘struggle kids’ want to return to Angola by next week.<\/p>\n

“The Namibian government does not want to listen to us and denies us employment opportunities since we started demanding government employment in 2001,” Mahoka said.<\/p>\n

The 22 are part of some 60′ children of the liberation struggle who were expelled from Berg Aukas last year and transported in Namibia Defence Force (NDF) trucks to Oshakati.<\/p>\n

The NDF trucks dropped them at Oshakati town’s Ekuku relocation camp where they live under a tree without food or proper shelter since August last year.<\/p>\n

Mahoka was not available to shed light on the outcome of their discussions with officials of the Angolan office. – Nampa<\/p>\n
