Stewart Downing<\/a> has admitted that he is ready to commit his future to Aston Villa<\/a>. The 26-year-old’s current contract at Villa Park expires in two-years’ time, but the club have moved to secure his services for the long haul.<\/p>\n

The former Middlesbrough man has been subject of much transfer speculation, with Liverpool believed to be interested in the England international.<\/p>\n

Villa assistant manager Gary McAllister confirmed that the club had been in talks with the winger to reward him for his form with a new contract.<\/p>\n

“I think there\u2019s been a couple of conversations already with my agent,” said Downing, according to The Express & Star<\/em>.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019ve already spoken to the manager who has said he\u2019d like to keep me. I\u2019m enjoying my stay here. It\u2019s great. I\u2019ve still got two years left and they\u2019ve come to me with an offer.<\/p>\n

“For a player that is brilliant because it gives you confidence that they have faith in you and that they reward people if they do well.<\/p>\n

“I\u2019ve enjoyed it since the first day I came. It\u2019s a terrific football club. It\u2019s fantastic they want me.<\/p>\n

“The important thing in football is, if you\u2019re happy, then why change it? I know it\u2019s been a disappointing season, but I can see the bigger picture.”<\/p>\n

Aston Villa have had an underwhelming season and are currently placed 14th in the Premier League.<\/p>\n
