Nairobi \u2014 Ethiopians who killed more than 20 people in Turkana have set base on Kenyan territory.<\/p>\n

The 900 Merilles, who are said to have been armed by their government, now occupy prime land on the Kenyan side of Lake Turkana and prevent Kenyans from setting foot there.<\/p>\n

This is what Prime Minister Raila Odinga and a government delegation that went to the area in Todonyang learnt on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The PM’s delegation, which was guarded by heavy security personnel, however, could not access the villages that have been taken over by the Ethiopians.<\/p>\n

Mr Odinga’s team, which included ministers and MPs, watched the villages from a distance when they visited the site where the Kenyans were killed.<\/p>\n

Local DC Jack Obuo said the Ethiopians had also stationed two fighter tanks near the Kenyan border and that there were only 20 police reservists against the Ethiopians’ 900 policemen.<\/p>\n

Mr Odinga said a Cabinet security meeting would be held on Monday to finalise plans to ensure security at the border.<\/p>\n

Catholic priest Stephen Ochieng and Rift Valley PC Osman Warfa told of Kenyans suffering at the hands of Ethiopians for the last 10 years.<\/p>\n

He said body parts of Kenyans who were killed were taken by the Ethiopians for rituals but in last week’s incident the bodies were left naked.<\/p>\n

Local Catholic priests and Labour minister John Munyes, who is the local MP, said 31 people had been killed and 16 others were unaccounted for but the police said they counted 20 bodies.<\/p>\n

Water minister Charity Ngilu was moved to tears after hearing of the ordeal.<\/p>\n

“A GSU (General Service Unit) chief inspector and an AP (Administration Police) are among those killed by Ethiopians in the recent past.<\/p>\n

“Apart from beefing up security, we will implement a major master plan for the development of the larger Turkana,” said Mr Odinga.<\/p>\n
