Zimbabwe and South Sudan on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding that is set to fortify bilateral relations between the two nations.<\/p>\n

The signing of the MoU will see Juba engaging Harare for expertise in different spheres.<\/p>\n

Foreign Affairs Minister Simbarashe Mumbengegwi, who signed the agreement on behalf of the Zimbabwean Government, said the move was the beginning of a framework that would strengthen bilateral relations in areas such as tourism, banking, finance, trade and investment.<\/p>\n

He said Zimbabwe was ready to render necessary support to South Sudan.<\/p>\n

“We have learnt with great concern of the security challenges that your country is currently experiencing.<\/p>\n

“It is our sincere hope that these challenges will be resolved speedily and amicably in a manner that will guarantee peace and security for all,” said Minister Mumbengegwi.<\/p>\n

South Sudan’s Minister of Information, Mr Barnaba Benjamin said his country appreciated the assistance received from Zimbabwe during their struggle for independence and self-determination.<\/p>\n

“Zimbabweans have always assisted in the long route to freedom and the vast expertise will go a long way in building Africa’s newborn baby as there are a lot of things that the Southern Sudan can learn from Zimbabwe.”<\/p>\n

The signing of the MoU comes at a time South Sudan is preparing for its first independence celebrations on July 9.<\/p>\n

The people of South Sudan overwhelmingly voted for independence from the North in a referendum held in January this year.<\/p>\n
