Former Manchester City<\/a> player and now club ambassador Mike Summerbee believes his old club are not totally reliant upon captain Carlos Tevez<\/a>.<\/p>\nThe influential Argentine has scored 19 goals in the Premier League this season and made his comeback from injury last night against Tottenham as a substitute.<\/p>\n
The striker could start against Stoke in Saturday’s FA Cup final, but Summerbee insists that City are far from a one-man team.<\/p>\n
“Carlos Tevez is a world-class player but a team is not about one man. There are people there to take their places,\u201d Summerbee told Press Association Sport<\/em>.<\/p>\n“It is great to have player of Carlos’ quality and goal scoring ability but there are 10 other players in the side. That’s what I always look at.<\/p>\n
“There is a great camaraderie between the players. It always takes time for one or two to settle in. People have to adapt. But take it from me the team spirit is top notch. Everyone helps each other.”<\/p>\n
Summerbee lauded boss Roberto Mancini for guiding the club to what could be their most successful season in years.<\/p>\n
“We have been in the top four the whole season and I don’t think that even in their wildest dreams any supporter would have envisaged that,\u201d added Summerbee.<\/p>\n
“It is difficult when you are in a city where Manchester United keep winning trophies. But our time is coming. Your turn comes again.<\/p>\n
“It is a reflection on what the manager has done, which is remarkable, the way he is and the way his staff is.”<\/p>\n
City produced a solid 1-0 victory over Tottenham last night to secure fourth and a first appearance in Europe’s premier club competition since 1969, and head to Wembley for the FA Cup final on Saturday with the chance of ending a 35-year trophy drought.<\/p>\n
Summerbee revealed that he cannot believe the progress made by the club under Sheik Mansour’s ownership.<\/p>\n
“I sometimes pinch myself some days when I come to the ground or go to a game, the way things are organised for us and the way the older players are looked after,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
“The history of the club is important to Sheikh Mansour and our chairman Khaldoon Al Mubarak. It is important that people know City’s history when they come here.<\/p>\n
“Former captain Tony Book is becoming more involved with me. He is a big part of the club. When young players arrive we go down to see them and let them know a bit more about Manchester City and its foundation stones.<\/p>\n
“I have a lot of pride in the situation I am in. It is a great honour. Maybe in the past you might sneak in the back door but now I go right to the front.”<\/p>\n
Summerbee is aware of the threat that Stoke possess from set pieces, with the inevitable long ball throw in from Rory Delap, but he believes that Yaya Toure could thwart the midfielder by standing in front of him.<\/p>\n
“When I was at Swindon we had a player called Bobby Woodruff who took the throws,\u201d he said, Summerbee added.<\/p>\n
“But when we met Bournemouth they had a guy called Ollie Norris who used to stand in front of him and jump up in the air on the touchline to try to distract him. Perhaps our tallest player, Yaya Toure, could do that!<\/p>\n
“I am not detracting, however, from Stoke’s ability as a team. They have different ways of playing. They put balls into the box all the time. They attack very quickly.”<\/p>\n
