"Phil Neville has 59 England caps

Everton captain Phil Neville intends to carry on his playing career for at least two more years.

The 34-year-old defender had considered retirement at the early stages of last season after picking up a foot injury.

Toffees boss David Moyes advised him against it, and Neville is now keen to play on.

“I feel as fit as I ever have, and want to continue for as long as possible and at least the next two seasons – hopefully at Everton,” he said.

Neville made 35 appearances in all competitions during the 2010/11 season as Everton finished seventh in the Premier League.

“From a personal point of view it’s been one of most enjoyable seasons. I’ve enjoyed it more than any other.

“But at the start of the season, when you come back from injury you question yourself.

“I was questioning myself whether I was good enough to be a footballer again, and was contemplating retirement, but the manager told me to snap out of it and so did my family and I’ve had a great season,” he added.

Neville’s older brother, and former Manchester United and England team-mate Gary, retired in February after playing over 600 times for the Old Trafford club and earning 85 England caps.
