The Tarkwa Circuit Court has sentenced Kwame Amewugah, 27, a galamsey operator to 10 years imprisonment for possessing Indian hemp.<\/p>\n
He pleaded guilty.<\/p>\n
Prosecuting Police Inspector Florence Tawiah told the court presided over by Mr Samuel Obeng Diawuo that on June 1, 2008 at a about 1030 hours, the Police acting on a tip-off, arrested Amewugah while he was transporting eight maxi sacks and five mini sacks of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp from Kumasi through Tarkwa.<\/p>\n
The substances were in a Benz bus with registration number GT 7795 V.<\/p>\n
She said when the suspect was arrested, he confirmed that they belonged to him and after tests were conducted it was confirmed that the substance was Indian hemp.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
