The incident, which took place in 2008, became public after a widely circulated video of the incident caught the attention of the general public and human right activists, who called for an investigation into the incident.<\/p>\n
After weeks of investigations into the shameful incident, Joy News confirmed that the soldiers have been found guilty and have been sanctioned accordingly.<\/p>\n
The Public Relations Officer of the Military High Command, Col. Mbawuni Atintande told Joy News on Tuesday May 10, that \u201cthese two Naval personnel have been identified\u2026 investigations went on and then as per our regulations, this is a very reprehensible act, we know that its an offence and we have to do something about it.\u201d<\/p>\n
Col. Atintande further disclosed that after identifying the officers involved, \u201cthey have been charged and tried.\u201d<\/p>\n
He however failed to reveal the type of punishment meted out to the officers but said, \u201cCertainly they have been punished because of the act that they have done which we, the Armed Forces, think that it is reprehensible.\u201d<\/p>\n
He remarked that the issue must be dealt with clearly such that others would not repeat the same act.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
