Premier League<\/a> title next season.<\/p>\nThe Red Devils beat Carlo Ancelotti’s men at Old Trafford to take a six-point lead over the second-placed side with two games to go, putting themselves in a strong position to win the league this season.<\/p>\n
The Chelsea captain admitted that it hurt to lose the game and arguably with it the title, but nonetheless he congratulated opposition boss Sir Alex Ferguson after the match.<\/p>\n
“I just wished him well,” Terry told ChelseaTV<\/em>.<\/p>\n“You have to be graceful in defeat and we have thoroughly enjoyed the times we have won.<\/p>\n
“Over the years, he has popped in and said congratulations to us and he and his team are well respected across the world.<\/p>\n
“But it does hurt when you do it, and it drives you on as well.<\/p>\n
“You get a focus for next year and we will be aiming to take it off them.”<\/p>\n
Only two months ago, the Blues were 15 points behind United and were written off in the title race, but they came back strongly to mount a comeback and launch a bid to retain their status as champions.<\/p>\n
Despite the comeback, Terry remains unhappy with the season as a whole, with the Blues likely to end up without a trophy.<\/p>\n
“I remember Man United topping the form guide when we were probably down the bottom of it somewhere and that coincided with them overtaking us and giving themselves a nice cushion,” he said.<\/p>\n
“Credit to our management and the lads for digging in, and the fans as well who have been brilliant all season, because two months ago we didn’t look in it at all and we were worrying about qualification for the Champions League.<\/p>\n
“But we put a good run together and gave ourselves an opportunity coming into Sunday’s game so that deserves credit.<\/p>\n
“Two months ago, you could maybe be happy about where we are now but you look back at the start of the season and you wouldn’t be happy.<\/p>\n
“We were in control and then we hit a run of bad form and we couldn’t really get out of it quick enough.<\/p>\n
“We dropped points home and away and that proved to be vital.”<\/p>\n
