Source:<\/strong> —<\/p>\nA planned concert to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the death of reggae icon Robert Nesta Marley aka Bob Marley, at the Trade Fair Centre, La Accra, has been rescheduled to June 4 2010.<\/p>\n
Bosco Showbiz, organizers of the anniversary concert, said the event could not be held on May 14 due to the ban on drumming in the capital, adding that part of the proceeds would be donated to Bob Marley Foundation.<\/p>\n
Bob Marley, who died on May 11, 1981, was a Jamaican singer, songwriter and musician. He was the rhythm guitarist, leader and lead singer for the reggae band Bob Marley and The Wailers. Marley remains the most widely known and revered performer of reggae music, and is credited with helping spread both Jamaican music and the Rastafari movement to a worldwide audience.<\/p>\n
Bob Marley’s music was heavily influenced by the social issues of his homeland, and he is considered to have given voice to the specific political and cultural nexus of Jamaica.<\/p>\n
His best-known hits include \u2018I Shot the Sheriff\u2019, \u2018No Woman, No Cry\u2019, \u2018Could You Be Loved\u2019, \u2018Stir It Up\u2019, \u2018Jamming\u2019, \u2018Redemption Song\u2019, \u2018One Love\u2019 and, together with The Wailers, \u2018Three Little Birds\u2019, as well as the posthumous releases \u2018Buffalo Soldier\u2019 and \u2018Iron Lion Zion\u2019.<\/p>\n
The compilation album, \u2018Legend\u2019 (1984), released three years after his death, is reggae’s best-selling album, going ten times Platinum (Diamond) in the U.S. and selling 25 million copies worldwide.<\/p>\n
The organizers of the show, in a statement, urged music fans to come to the Trade Fair Centre in their numbers to be part of the incredible concert dedicated to peace in Ivory Coast.<\/p>\n
The organisers said music fans should not only come to have fun, but to also enjoy the drinks which would be made available during the event.<\/p>\n
The show, which will kick off at 5pm, will feature a number of reggae music icons such as Iwan, Black Messiah, Commander Messiah, Radigan 4rm Nima, Vibration Kings Band, X-105, DJ Ice and DJ Wise.<\/p>\n
Iwan is expected to share the stage with some of Africa\u2019s best acts from Ivory Coast and Ghana. Already, word about Bob Marley\u2019s concert in Ghana is making rounds in gossip circles.<\/p>\n
Iwan, who has carved a niche for himself in the music industry, has a huge loyal fan base in Ghana. An astounding performer by industry standards, he is sure to deliver a thrilling performance.<\/p>\n
Some personalities in the reggae music industry will pay tributes to departed reggae music icons like Peter Tosh, Lucky Dube, Culture, among others.<\/p>\n
The statement said the much-awaited concert would be an evening filled with live band music in a bid to promote and preserve the culture of Ghanaian music. It will also be a platform to reawaken the art of live band performances.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
