WARRI-THE Diocese of Ughelli (Anglican Communion), Delta State has called for the revocation of the approval for the issuance of licence for Islamic banking in Nigeria, saying it was provocative.<\/p>\n

The diocese in a statement issued at the end of the second session of its fifth synod at Ughelli said, \u201cSynod notes with suspicion the haste with which approval was granted for the issuance of a licence for Islamic banking in Nigeria, without any known or overt legislative support from the National Assembly\u201d.<\/p>\n

According to the statement, signed by the president of the Synod (clerical), Rev C.O. Odutemi\u00a0 and synod secretary, Canon B.A.C. Awharitoma, \u201cSynod frowned at this initiative,\u00a0 which could provoke negative reactions from other Nigerians who are not practising Muslims, and strongly calls for a revocation of the licence\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
