The movie opened over the weekend in 22 theaters where it earned an estimated $104,000, or about $4,745 per theater, a categorical flop. &#8220;I think people will try to read into these numbers and say it is a repudiation of Mel Gibson, its star, but I don&#8217;t think that&#8217;s true,&#8221; Summit executive Richie Fay told the Hollywood Reporter . &#8220;The film is a tough sell.&#8221; But, in reporting on the results, the Los Angeles Times commented &#8220;It appears that Mel Gibson, after well-publicized incidents in which he&#8217;s made sexist and anti-Semitic comments, may be losing his clout with moviegoers.&#8221; Some observers have suggested that the movie may not turn out to be a complete financial disaster for its backers, Summit Entertainment, Participant Media, and Imagenation Abu Dhabi. The film cost only $22 million to produce and may find a more receptive audience overseas.
