Meredith Vieira, the long-time ‘Today Show’ host, will leave the programme in June 2011. Meredith Vieira, who will take an unspecified new role at the network, will be succeeded by news anchor Ann Curry.<\/span><\/p>\n

The shake-up at Nbc will also see Natalie Morales taking over from Curry’s news anchor role, and White House correspondent Savannah Guthrie moving into Morales’ spot. The announcement confirms weeks of speculation about the possible exit of Vieira, who has hosted the show alongside Matt Lauer for five years. Nbc haven’t yet offered a reason for Ms Vieira’s departure, but the exit has been expected since last year. Co-host Lauer, who has worked on the show since 1997, is expected to make a decision on his future before his contract comes to an end in 2012. The ‘Today Show’, which airs between 7am to 11am each weekday, is one of the most profitable shows on U.S. television, taking in $535 million in advertising revenue last year. In an emotional announcement on the show today (10th May 2011), Vieira said, “This is a difficult day for me. I’m going to try to hold myself together here. But after months of personal reflection and private conversations between my family and my friends, I’ve decided to leave Today in June”.<\/span><\/p>\n

Meredith Vieira is also the current host of ‘Who Wants to Be a Millionaire’, replacing Regis Philbin back in 2002.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
