A FORMER District Chief Executive of the Sekyere East District, Mr. Kwadwo Adae has called for the appointment of a mediation team of eminent Ghanaians by the NDC hierarchy, to work for a truce between the former President, Mr. J. J. Rawlings and the incumbent, President John Atta Mills.<\/p>\n
He has suggested that a mediation\u00a0team be put together as soon as practicable by the\u00a0 party echelon, to\u00a0put an end to the internal\u00a0wrangling, which he described as ‘a sad affair’, before the\u00a0 fortunes of the party are affected\u00a0 at the\u00a0 2012\u00a0 elections.<\/p>\n
The ex-DCE recommended Messrs Harry Sawyer, Dr. Mrs. Mary Grant, Ambassador Victor Gbeho, Nana Dr.\u00a0 S. K. B. Asante and\u00a0\u00a0 the Ameer and Missionary of the Ahmadiyya Mission, Maulvi Wahab Adam, to be drafted to constitute the mediation team, because\u00a0the former President has a lot of respect for them.<\/p>\n
He said in an interview with The Chronicle that the mediators should look at preventing the two Gentlemen from making unguided\u00a0statements or remarks against each other.<\/p>\n
Adae noted that\u00a0even though Mr. Rawlings\u00a0had made unfair remarks about President Mills, he (Prof. Mills) should be careful not to retaliate.<\/p>\n
According to him, Mr. Rawlings has sacrificed a lot for the NDC and\u00a0would be needed\u00a0now, more than any other time in the history of the party, and should not be provoked to the point of encouraging him to exit from the party he founded.<\/p>\n
Ex-DCE\u00a0 Adae reminded both Mr. Rawlings\u00a0and\u00a0 President\u00a0Mills about the Swedru Declaration, which\u00a0brought about some\u00a0division\u00a0among the\u00a0NDC\u00a0 family, and\u00a0to work\u00a0 for\u00a0 unity and peace to prevail in the\u00a0 party. ‘After all, Mr. Rawlings brought the so-called ‘bad nut’ (Prof Mills) to the fold of the NDC’, he said.<\/p>\n
Mr. Adae repeated\u00a0his call on the party\u00a0hierarchy to tap into the strengths of the three most\u00a0important\u00a0personalities\u00a0in party’s leadership, namely Mr. Rawlings, Prof. Mills and\u00a0Veep Mahama to win\u00a0the\u00a02012\u00a0elections massively.<\/p>\n
He noted that the NDC won the last elections because of the personality of President Mills, the charisma of\u00a0\u00a0 Mr. Rawlings\u00a0\u00a0 and the\u00a0\u00a0 leadership traits of the Veep, Mr.\u00a0 John Mahama.<\/p>\n
According to the ex-DCE Adae, Prof. Mills’ level of\u00a0\u00a0 education and experience coupled with fear of God made him an uncompromising leader.<\/p>\n
He described former President Rawlings as charismatic, who\u00a0pulls the\u00a0crowd\u00a0wherever he goes, while\u00a0the\u00a0Veep\u00a0is\u00a0simply seen as\u00a0a\u00a0fine\u00a0gentleman, hence the need for\u00a0party elders\u00a0to make\u00a0\u00a0 contact with\u00a0the three\u00a0and dialogue with them.<\/p>\n
‘It is very important that\u00a0they (the trio) come together to champion the cause of the NDC because anything short of a united front would be suicidal for the party’, Mr. Adae said.<\/p>\n
He said the reality is that Mr. Rawlings is\u00a0not on good terms\u00a0with the Veep, who is perceived as the\u00a0source of Rawlings’\u00a0hatred\u00a0for Prof. Mills.<\/p>\n
Mr. Adae said the way forward to NDC’s success at Election 2012, is for the three to come together.\u00a0 He\u00a0also suggested that the utterances to the effect\u00a0that the NDC\u00a0does not belong to any one particular person must stop. ‘It is true, but it is not good for the party at this time’, he cautioned.<\/p>\n
Mr. Adae, a long time\u00a0 ally\u00a0 and regular\u00a0 visitor of the Rawlingses, said\u00a0 it\u00a0 would be\u00a0\u00a0 appropriate\u00a0 and\u00a0 prudent\u00a0 if the\u00a0 mediators\u00a0could\u00a0work fast\u00a0and prevail on Mr. Rawlings\u00a0to discourage\u00a0Nana\u00a0Konadu\u00a0from\u00a0contesting\u00a0the\u00a0 party’s flagbearership, against the sitting President.<\/p>\n
He said if Mrs. Rawlings is not stopped, it would spell the doom of the NDC, explaining ‘It will be a disaster for the party, because Nana Konadu cannot poll more than 20% of votes at the elections, and this will definitely affect the image of the Rawlingses’.<\/p>\n
Mr. Adae \u00a0\u00a0noted\u00a0\u00a0 that\u00a0\u00a0 two and a half years in governance is a short period to conclude\u00a0\u00a0 that the president has not fared well.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
