Factional National Chairman of the Progressive People\u2019s Alliance (PPA), Lisa Olu Akerele, has said that incumbent Imo State Governor Ikedi Ohakim began plotting his political waterloo when he started behaving like an emperor with little or no regard for the electorate and those who assisted him to power.<\/p>\n

Lisa Akerele said in a statement yesterday in Abuja that the electorate was no longer docile as the people now voted out non-performing politicians.<\/p>\n

He noted that Chief Ohakim, who lost to APGA in the governorship election, held his political mentors with contempt, just as he had no regard for the citizens of Imo State whose mandate he held.<\/p>\n

He said, \u201cOhakim went after imaginary enemies hacking down his friends and treating everyone contemptuously believing he would resort to Greek gifts at the end of his tenure to buy his stay in Government House.\u201d<\/p>\n

He said that Ohakim, who decamped from PPA,\u00a0 had no political structures and would soon be choked out of the People\u2019s Democratic Party (PDP) where he believed that he is sharing his bed with strange fellows.<\/p>\n

He advised him not to waste his stashed wealth seeking to upturn his defeat at the tribunal as it would be a futile effort since the result was the position of the electorate who had spoken.<\/p>\n

He asserted that politicians have drawn lessons from the recently concluded general elections in the country that things are no longer the same, saying that with the current wave of democracy across the country, it was apparent that the era of rigging elections was over.<\/p>\n

\u201cPower ultimately resides in the people, whose perception of a performing politician is the provision of developmental projects in their constituencies and not by the high profile advertisements placed in international mass media or by the number of books published,\u201d he maintained.<\/p>\n

He said that the days where politicians treated the people with impunity were over as they now audaciously appreciate their right in the ballot paper.<\/p>\n

Lisa Akerele then praised the national chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof Attahiru Jega, for a good job, adding that the electoral body never gave political turncoats the opportunity to rig.<\/p>\n
