ABAKALIKI-THE All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, weekend described the victory of the party in the just-concluded supplementary election in Imo State as a mass revolt against\u00a0 perceived mal-administration of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, government in the state.<\/p>\n

The party stated that despite the fact that its candidate, Mr. Rochas Okorocha, joined the governorship campaign less than two months to the election, it remained remarkable the level of support that accompanied the election as people funded most of the campaign activities on their own.<\/p>\n

In a press statement issued in Abakaliki, National Publicity Secretary of the party, Mr. Benard Akoma, added that Okorocha did not win the election out of his excellent political campaign organisation nor his spending. He said\u00a0 the victory was a result of a general resolve by the people to effect a change in the state.<\/p>\n

He said: \u201cAPGA\u2019s victory in Imo State was a mass revolt against a perceived mal-administration of PDP government in the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cDespite the fact that the party\u2019s guber candidate, Mr. Rochas Okorocha, joined the race to the state\u2019s Government House less than two months to the governorship election, the support given to the party was tsunamic as it erupted like a volcano.<\/p>\n

\u201cOkorocha never won that election out of his excellent political campaign organisation nor because of his deep pocket as people funded most of the activities on their own. There was a general resolve by the people to effect a change in the state.<\/p>\n

\u201cAgain, the support to Okorocha was borne out of a leadership challenge not only for Imo people but also for the entire Igbo race.<\/p>\n

\u201cThere is a common perception that Okorocha represents that individual the Igbos are waiting for to take them to the promised land. Again, Okorocha\u2019s victory was like a pay back time for Ohakim by Imo people who felt he stole the earlier mandate which they gave to APGA in 2007.<\/p>\n

\u201cAbove all,\u00a0 APGA\u2019s victory in Imo is a message by the parent states of Anambra and Imo to their children in Abia, Enugu and Ebonyi that come 2015, this is the platform the Igbos should adopt to actualise their political interests.\u201d<\/p>\n

\u2026 new dawn for Igbo \u2013 Obi<\/strong><\/p>\n

AWKA \u2013 STILL basking in the euphoria of his party\u2019s victory in Imo State governorship election, Governor Peter Obi of Anambra State has said the victory of Mr. Rochas Okorocha signified the beginning of the process of re-inventing the Igbo identity in the country.<\/p>\n

Addressing reporters in Awka, Obi, who recalled the past efforts to kill the spirit of APGA as a political party, said Okorocha\u2019s victory, in addition to the impressive outing of the party in Anambra State, had rekindled that spirit.<\/p>\n

His said: \u201cToday is a new dawn for APGA which represents the Igbo man\u2019s political consciousness.
\u201cIn the past, there was a connivance to stifle the development of that consciousness, but with this victory the shackles are now being shaken off.<\/p>\n

\u201cWhile I congratulate my brother, Rochas Okorocha, I thank members of APGA in Anambra State and throughout the country, because from point zero we were able to secure over 60 per cent of available political posts in the just concluded elections in Anambra State.<\/p>\n

\u201cI look forward to the Igbos working together for the good of our people and that, for me, is the significance of Rochas\u2019 victory.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
