{"id":419754,"date":"2011-05-08T19:44:31","date_gmt":"2011-05-08T19:44:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/05\/08\/govt-approved-raise-in-terminal-charges-%e2%80%93-nsc\/"},"modified":"2011-05-08T19:44:31","modified_gmt":"2011-05-08T19:44:31","slug":"govt-approved-raise-in-terminal-charges-nsc","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/05\/08\/govt-approved-raise-in-terminal-charges-nsc\/","title":{"rendered":"Govt approved raise in terminal charges \u2013 NSC"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"78\">\n<p>By Godfrey Bivbere<br \/>LAGOS \u2014 Nigerian Shippers\u2019 Council, NSC, has said that government approved the increase in terminal charges for private terminal operators to enable them meet the clamour for increase in wages for labour engaged at the various ports.<\/p>\n<p>This is coming at a time when the National President of the National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents, NCMDLCA, Chief Festus Ejiofor, called on the freight forwarding groups to cooperate with the Council for the Regulation of Fright Forwarding in Nigeria, CRFFN, to enable practitioners get proper training.<\/p>\n<p>Director of Shipping and Commercial Services of NSC, D. Shalhoma, said that the Minister of transport, Alhaji Yusuf Ibrahim, had approved the increment following agreement reached with labour.<\/p>\n<p>On why the freight forwarders were excluded from the meeting leading to the approval of the increase in terminal charges, Shalhoma noted that it is not a deliberate one.<\/p>\n<p>The position of the NSC was supported by Dauda Danjuma, who is an Assistant Director in charge of Shipping Development. Dauda noted that the Ministry is not unconcern about the complains of freight forwarders. He pointed out that a meeting involving the Ministry, NSC, Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and the Council for the Regulation of Freight Forwarding in Nigeria (CRFFN) will be held to deliberate on the modalities for the collection of practicing from practitioners.<\/p>\n<p>A member of the Council and National President of Association of Nigeria Licensed Customs Agent (ANLCA), Prince Olayiwola Shittu, Had raised the issue of an increase in terminal charges without consultation with freight forwarders which is contrary to concession agreement.<\/p>\n<p>Shittu warned members of the Council not to take the planned meeting to work out modalities for the collection of practicing fees because those responsible for the regulation and supervision of the sector cannot be trusted.<\/p>\n<p>Ejiofor had told Vanguard earlier that the National Council is talking good care of its members to ensure that they do ensuring that they do not constitute nuisance at the port.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<p>Comments are moderated.
