\u00a0SAPELE \u2013 OVER 50 ad-hoc staff who worked for the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, at Sapele local government area, Delta State in the just concluded general elections, weekend, protested what they described as paltry payment of N9, 000 to them by the Commission.\u00a0\u00a0

The irate workers alleged that well over N30, 000 was approved for each of them for each of the elections and wondered why the money was slashed to N9, 000.

They rejected the money and staged a protest at the commission\u2019s office in Sapele .\u00a0

\u00a0One of the ad-hoc staff, Miss Lilian Oghene told newsmen that they were shocked at the N9,000 payment because they carried a very challenging and risky assignment that sapped their energy, time and knowledge to give the nation a credible, free and fair polls.

She said the workers, some of who were either beaten up or injured by political thugs during the elections, were at a loss over why the commission would decide to pay them a N9, 000, despite earlier assurances that their allowance would be suitably remunerated. .

The electoral officer, INEC, Sapele could not be reached for comments as the time of filing this report but it was learnt that the commission was addressing the problem.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
