Former France international Zinedine Zidane has revealed that he hopes that national team coach Laurent Blanc will not resign from his position.<\/p>\n
Blanc has come under scrutiny following his role in the plans of the FFF (France Football Federation) to limit the amount of dual nationality players coming through the youth ranks of French football, and the national team coach is reportedly ready to throw in the towel.<\/p>\n
“He definitely shouldn’t resign as national team coach. But I can assure you that this situation hurts him a lot. I think that he made a great start as France coach and he’s working on a great project,” said Zidane to L’Equipe.<\/p>\n
“It would be crazy to let him go because of this. He should continue as national team coach. I know Laurent very well and I know that he’s not a racist. Race is not important for him.”<\/p>\n
The FFF has already moved to deny any rumors suggesting that Blanc could step down as France coach, but the man himself has yet to comment on the exit reports.<\/p>\n
“I’ve spoken to him on the telephone,” the FFF’s chief press officer Philippe Tournon told AFP on Saturday afternoon.<\/p>\n
“We spoke about him coming to Paris for the hearing and about what could happen afterwards. But at no time did we speak about the resignation.”
It is not yet clear how long the hearing is likely to take, nor what decision Blanc himself may come to.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
