First Half<\/p>\n
The first half was fairly uneventful, as both sides fought for possession, neither creating many clear-cut chances. Both D.C. United and FC Dallas will be happy with their backline organization in the match’s first stanza.<\/p>\n
D.C. United had the game’s first chance in the eighth minute as Charlie Davies was put through by a poor Brek Shea back-pass, but desperate clearances from Ugo Ihemelu and Andrew Jacobson saved the Hoops.<\/p>\n
Jacobson had a half-chance off a corner kick in the 23rd minute for FC Dallas, but he flashed a header just wide of the far post after beating his man to the ball.<\/p>\n
In the 39th minute, Jacobson again created a dangerous chance, as his flicked header off a long Zach Loyd throw was almost put in for an own goal by D.C. defender Dejan Jakovic.<\/p>\n
Five minutes before the break, Chris Pontius made a strong run through the heart of the Dallas defense, but his through ball was smothered by goalkeeper Kevin Hartman just before Joseph Ngwenya could get to it.<\/p>\n
Second Half<\/p>\n
Ngwenya had a penalty shout for D.C. In the 51st minute, as he easily spun around Brek Shea in the box before cutting in and being brought down from behind. Referee Baldomero Toledo waived play on however.<\/p>\n
D.C. continued to pressure as Charlie Davies got behind George John and was fouled in the 60th minute, but Chris Pontius’ free-kick from just outside the box hit the wall, and his ensuing header from a corner kick went over the bar.<\/p>\n
Andy Najar, making his second straight start, was active, but his night was cut short in the 70th minute when he attempted to clear the ball, but accidentally kicked Brek Shea. Both players went down, but only Najar had to be subbed out.<\/p>\n
Stephen King had a golden opportunity to grab the opening goal in the 77th minute when he was unmarked as Josh Wolff teed him up at the top of the box, but his driven shot went well wide of the frame.<\/p>\n
A long throw from Ugo Ihemelu late in the match almost produced a goal, but Daniel Woolard’s desperate lunge blocked a close-range effort from FC Dallas substitute Ruben Luna.<\/p>\n
The best chance of the entire match came in the 89th minute, as a Josh Wolff cross found Fred entirely unmarked at the back post, only to be denied by a highlight-reel sprawling save by Kevin Hartman.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
