Bauchi \u2013 The Police in Bauchi State, Friday said\u00a0 16 people were killed\u00a0 while\u00a0 20 houses were burnt in Kurum village of\u00a0 Bogoro Local Government Area of\u00a0 the state\u00a0 during a night attack by\u00a0 gunmen on Wednesday.<\/p>\n

The\u00a0 state\u2019s Commissioner of\u00a0 Police, Mr John Abakasanga,\u00a0 told\u00a0 the News Agency of\u00a0 Nigeria (NAN) in Bauchi that the\u00a0 motive behind\u00a0 the attack was not known.<\/p>\n

He, however, said the attack followed one of\u00a0\u00a0 the serial raids in successive months.<\/p>\n

The police boss said\u00a0 gunmen\u00a0\u00a0 had adopted a hit-and-run strategy in\u00a0 raiding the area, adding that the police were\u00a0 investigating the cause of\u00a0 the attack.<\/p>\n

Also speaking to NAN, Mr Bukata Zhadi,\u00a0 the Secretary of\u00a0 Zaar Elders and Traditional Rulers in Bogoro and Tafawa Balewa councils, said three more persons receiving treatment in the hospital died,\u00a0 bringing the number of\u00a0 the dead\u00a0 to 19.<\/p>\n

Zhadi said that many other persons were in critical condition in various hospitals.<\/p>\n

The secretary hinged\u00a0 the recurrent crisis on the state government\u2019s failure to tackle the problem.<\/p>\n

NAN reports that since a crisis erupted in Tafawa Balewa and Bogoro councils on\u00a0 Jan. 27, there had\u00a0 been several attacks in\u00a0 the communities with many\u00a0 killed and\u00a0 several houses destroyed.<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, the state government has announced\u00a0 that it was aware of some individuals and groups who incite youths and hire mercenaries to perpetrate violence.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
