A POLITICAL SCIENCE lecturer at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Kwasi Amakye Boateng, has called on Ghanaians to send the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) party into opposition in the 2012 elections.<\/p>\n
Amakye Boateng believes the NDC, when in opposition, would help the party work out its leadership problems and re-organize itself as a political party.<\/p>\n
According to him, the NDC lacked consensus, stating, \u201cGhanaians cannot look forward to the NDC for leadership in 2012\u201d.<\/p>\n
The lecturer told Oman FM that the scale of the internal problems in the NDC had a direct bearing on the governance of the country, which he feared was not the best for now.<\/p>\n
On June 4, 2010, Kwasi Amakye Boateng told Citi FM news that Nana Konadu Agyeman Rawlings\u2019 intention to contest the sitting president, Prof J.E.A. Mills, for the flagbearership of the ruling party was a wrong move.<\/p>\n
He expressed the opinion after a group within the NDC, in a subtle manner, launched the former first lady\u2019s campaign bid for the 2012 elections at the 2010 June 4 celebrations in Tamale.<\/p>\n
\u201cBringing Nana Konadu will be problematic for the NDC. One wants to look at the fact that criticisms on the President have been coming from the office of the former President, and his wife stands to benefit from that\u201d, Mr. Amakye noted then.<\/p>\n
The KNUST lecturer reiterated that Nana Konadu\u2019s desire to become the president of the country was because of her own personal ambition and not because of the interest of the nation.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, the propaganda secretary of the NDC has told Kessben FM, a radio station in Kumasi, that those who are against president Mills\u2019 leadership were not only traitors and enemies but also \u201cinsincere, untruthful and hypocrites\u201d.<\/p>\n
He said the President had done so well and deserved to be given the mandate by the delegates of the party to continue the good works he was doing.<\/p>\n
He also opined that former president Rawlings\u2019 reference to a research that showed that Prof. Mills would lose the contest for the flagbearership position of the NDC party was a lie as the party had not conducted any such research.<\/p>\n
The general secretary of the party also denied that there had been such an opinion poll conducted by the party.<\/p>\n
He made this known when the President picked his nomination form on Thursday.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
