Blake Shelton, the American country musician, has insisted he is not a homophobe despite posting a seemingly anti-gay twitter message. Blake Shelton shocked his fans on Wednesday evening (4th May 2011) by changing the lyrics to a Shania Twain so that they appeared homophobic.<\/span><\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

Referencing Twain’s smash hit ‘Any Man of Man’, the country singer and ‘The Voice’ judge tweeted, “Re-writing my fav Shania Twain song.. Any man that tries Touching my behind He’s gonna be a beaten, bleedin’, heaving kind of guy”. Twain’s original lyrics are, “Any man of mine better walk the line – Better show me a teasin’ squeezin’ pleasin’ kinda time”. Gay organisation Glaad immediately criticised Shelton for his post, saying, “This is one of the judges on what’s so far been one of the most gay-friendly reality shows on television.Blake Shelton needs to recognize that violence against the Lgbt community is not a laughing matter”. Shortly after, Shelton responded to the criticism, tweeting, “Hey y’all allow me to seriously apologize for the misunderstanding with the whole re-write on the Shania song last night.It honestly wasn’t even meant that way.” A source close to the star told US Weekly, “Blake is so not a homophobe. He really meant that from the perspective of Shania.He feels awful”.<\/span><\/p>\n

Blake Shelton is best known for his hit single ‘Austin’, which spent five weeks at number-one on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart following its release. The album of the same name was officially certified gold and produced two more Top 20 hits.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
