\nTamale, May 5, GNA – The Northern Regional Cadres of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), has described the actions of Former first lady, Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings to contest the sitting President as worrying, since it can divide the party.<\/p>\n
It said such actions will also weaken the unified effort of the party to maintain power to pursue the NDC’s development agenda, which could only be achieved through unity and cohesion of the party, adding that, the integrity of the NDC is crucial to its survival.<\/p>\n
The Cadres raised these issues in a press statement, issued in Tamale, on Wednesday, and signed by Mr Sulley Alhassan, Chairman of the Northern Cadres.<\/p>\n
The statement said the Cadres believe in the rights of Nana Konadu to be a candidate for any position in the party; however the exercise of her rights were worrying and divisive.<\/p>\n
It said the Cadres had observed closely with worry, the development in the NDC, which is now facing a crisis, heightened by the intentions of Nana Konadu, saying that, “It is better to prevent such damaging situation from occurring rather than to repair it”.<\/p>\n
“We are mindful of similar experiences in the history of the party where such situations had cost the party dearly” and called on her to reconsider her stance, to restore harmony within the party.<\/p>\n
The Cadres also appealed to President John Evans Atta Mills to collaborate with the leadership of the NDC to institute some systemic changes to bring about an improved link between the party and the grassroots.<\/p>\n
The statement urged the NDC to respond to some of the alleged improper use of government funds during the NPP Government from 2001-2008.<\/p>\n
It called on the founder of the party, Jerry John Rawlings, President John Evans Mills, the council of elders and all founding fathers to bring their expertise and experiences to bear on the unity and development of the party.<\/p>\n
