The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) would from next week issue certificates of return\u00a0 to winners of governorship, National Assembly and State Houses of Assembly elections across the country. This was disclosed Wednesday at Abuja\u00a0 by the Chief Press Secretary to the Chairman of the Commission Mr Kayode Idowu in a chat with newsmen in his office.<\/p>\n

He further disclosed that even though the commission used to issue the certificate from its Abuja headquarters in the past, a decision was recently taken to decentralize the issuance of the document.<\/p>\n

Although, Idowu could not confirm whether the certificates would be issued by the Resident Electoral Commissioners or the Returning officers for the various elections, a source hinted that these certificates were likely to be issued by the National Commissioners of the Commission who may be touring different parts of the country soon.<\/p>\n

Idowu further disclosed that the Commission was fully ready for the conduct of the re-run governorship election into four local government areas in Imo State scheduled to hold Friday.<\/p>\n

He also stated that INEC would soon embark on a constituency delimitation exercise which would precede the creation of new polling units across the country.<\/p>\n

Throwing more light on the forth-coming constituency delimitation process, Idowu described it as a demographic\u00a0 exercise which should reflect the population changes that have taken place in different parts of the country since the last time a similar exercise was conducted five years ago.<\/p>\n

Said he: \u201cThe last constituency delimitation exercise was done in 2006. That exercise was what the Commission used in the creation of the 120,000 polling booths that were used for both the 2007 and 2011 general elections\u201d.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
