GOVERNOR Peter Obi of Anambra State said Wednesday that the outcome of the last general election was the wish of the people, insisting that his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, did well in strategic areas of the state.<\/p>\n

APGA lost the three senatorial seats and some House of Representatives seats, but won majority in the House of Assembly during the election, even as there would be re-run in some areas.<\/p>\n

\u201cAPGA did well in the state in the last general election. The last general election was fairly a representative of the people. The way you know which party is more acceptable in the state is result of election in strategic areas of Onitsha, Nnewi and Awka, that is Awka North, Awka South, Onitsha North, Onitsha South, Nnewi North, Nnewi South\u00a0 and APGA did well in those areas,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n

The governor, who was speaking with reporters at the Governor\u2019s Lodge in Awka also said that no governor in Nigeria is against payment of the new minimum wage because the workers deserve it, adding that the bone of contention was the resources to match the payment of the enhanced salaries.<\/p>\n

According to him, at one of the meetings of the Governors\u2019 Forum, it was unanimously agreed that since the Federal Government takes much of what accrues to the nation, there is need to review the revenue allocation formula because what is left to the states is not enough to enable them pay the new wage.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/div>\n
