{"id":417505,"date":"2011-05-04T17:55:33","date_gmt":"2011-05-04T17:55:33","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/05\/04\/wasps-to-part-company-with-powell\/"},"modified":"2011-05-04T17:55:33","modified_gmt":"2011-05-04T17:55:33","slug":"wasps-to-part-company-with-powell","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/05\/04\/wasps-to-part-company-with-powell\/","title":{"rendered":"Wasps to part company with Powell"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div readability=\"80.4087325652\"><span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/news.bbcimg.co.uk\/media\/images\/52478000\/jpg\/_52478892_powell464.jpg\" width=\"464\" height=\"261\" alt=\"Andy Powell\" \/> Powell&#8217;s career at Wasps has come to an end<\/span> <\/p>\n<p>Wales back-row forward Andy Powell is to leave the club by mutual consent.<\/p>\n<p>Powell, who signed on a one-year deal in July 2010, had been suspended following his involvement in a <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/sport1\/hi\/rugby_union\/13133685.stm\">brawl in a London bar last month<\/a><\/p>\n<p>And following a review of the incident the club has decided to part ways with the 29-year-old.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The club and player agree that the conclusion reached is in their respective best interests for the future,&#8221; a club statement read.<\/p>\n<p>Powell was suspended indefinitely on 19 April following an incident at the Walkabout pub in Shepherd&#8217;s Bush, west London.<\/p>\n<p>Initially, both Powell and ex-England prop Tim Payne, 31, were banned pending an investigation by the High Wycombe-based club into the events at the London pub.<\/p>\n<p>Two days later, Wasps lifted their suspension of Payne, focusing their attentions on Powell.<\/p>\n<p>Commenting on that investigation, Wasps&#8217; statement continued: &#8220;This announcement comes following a thorough and detailed review, between the player and the club, of all of the evidence arising from the incident for which Andy was initially suspended.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;This included a review of CCTV footage of the incident and statements from those witnesses present throughout.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Both parties are satisfied that this matter has been dealt with in a proper, fair and appropriate manner.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Powell, who joined Wasps after being released by Cardiff Blues in the summer, pleaded guilty to driving a golf buggy while unfit through drink in March 2010.
