Bath and former England lock Danny Grewcock says he has given no thought to the personal significance of Saturday’s game against Newcastle.<\/strong><\/p>\n

The 38-year-old is retiring at the end of the season which almost certainly will be this weekend with Bath’s hopes of reaching the play-offs being remote.<\/p>\n

“We’re focused on getting a good result,” he told BBC Radio Bristol.<\/p>\n

“We might have another couple of games after that but if it is my final one then I’m sure I’ll look back then.”<\/p>\n

Bath are currently in fifth spot in the Premiership four points behind Northampton with one game of the regular season remaining.<\/p>\n

They would need bottom-of-the-table side Leeds to beat Saints at Franklins Gardens and secure a bonus-point victory over Newcastle themselves to leapfrog them.<\/p>\n

“The only question is are we good enough to beat Newcastle and if we get it right then we are,” said Grewcock.<\/p>\n

“If other teams get good results and that helps us then fantastic.”<\/p>\n\n\n

The Recreation Ground could well be a highly emotional scene come the end of the match as various significant names bid farewell.<\/p>\n

Head coach Steve Meehan is leaving the club along with Springboks Luke Watson and Butch James who are returning home.<\/p>\n

“There’s a number of great players that have all added a huge amount to the club who’s last game it could be,” said Grewcock.<\/p>\n

“So perhaps it will dawn on everyone then and perhaps we’ll have a few beers and chat about it.”<\/p>\n

The former Saracens man was part of the 2003 World Cup-winning squad and Lions tour in 2001 and 2005.<\/p>\n

“It amazes me more than anyone how it’s worked out and the fact that I’ve played one game for England never mind 69,” he said.<\/p>\n

“Playing at Bath is always a special game with a beautiful location and the fans are always great here.<\/p>\n

“To wear the Bath jersey and run out here, every game is a highlight for me.”<\/p>\n

When asked how he would like to be remembered he added: “Hopefully as a player who’s turned up and done a good job, that’s my simple focus.<\/p>\n

“We’re incredibly lucky people to be in the career that we’re in so perhaps to do justice to the job and give my all and hopefully I’ll be able to do that on Saturday.”<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/p>\n
