{"id":417061,"date":"2011-05-04T09:57:26","date_gmt":"2011-05-04T09:57:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/05\/04\/ps-gives-health-tips\/"},"modified":"2011-05-04T09:57:26","modified_gmt":"2011-05-04T09:57:26","slug":"ps-gives-health-tips","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/05\/04\/ps-gives-health-tips\/","title":{"rendered":"PS Gives Health Tips"},"content":{"rendered":"<div readability=\"39.4978354978\">\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.times.co.zm\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/allafrica.com\/img\/static\/publishers\/minibanners\/timeszambia180.jpg\" alt=\"The Times of Zambia (Ndola)\" title=\"Visit The Times of Zambia (Ndola)\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>4 May 2011<\/p>\n<hr class=\"thin clear\" \/>\n<p>Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Peter Mwaba has said health care will be incomplete if non-communicable diseases, among them, asthma, diabetes and high blood pressure are not prioritised.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Mwaba said yesterday that progress in health care delivery would not be made if non-communicable diseases were left unattended.<\/p>\n<p>He was speaking during the commemoration of Asthma Day held at Chipata Clinic in Lusaka.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Mwaba said the commemoration of Asthma Day was important because it raised awareness concerning the disease, which was a major cause of death worldwide.<\/p>\n<p>He said his ministry was putting emphasis and scaling up awareness on controlled non-communicable diseases across the country.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;People with asthma can live normal lives if they strictly follow the preventive measures such as keeping warm and correctly use inhalers,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>Zambia Paediatrics Association secretary general, Emilia Marsden said there had been improved asthma management in the country and that about 609 patients were on inhalers in Lusaka alone.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Marsden said there were currently nine clinics in Lusaka that offer asthma control programmes and include Chelstone, Chipata, Chawama, Kamwala, Kalingalinga, Matero, Bauleni, and Mtendere.<\/p>\n<p>The other centre handling the control programme is the University Teaching Hospital.<\/p>\n<p>She said the Ministry of Health was working with health personnel in the nine health centers with the aim of raising awareness to asthma control.<\/p>\n<p>She said health workers in the clinics had also been taught to stick to international guidelines on asthma management.<\/p>\n<p>Dr Marsden also said contrary to popular belief, inhalers were not addictive.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\n<fieldset>\n<legend align=\"center\"><strong>More News on allAfrica.com<\/strong><\/legend>\n<\/fieldset>\n<p>AllAfrica &#8211; All the Time<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<\/div>\n<\/p>\n<p>View post:<br \/>\n<a target=\"_blank\" href=\"http:\/\/allafrica.com\/stories\/201105040491.html\" title=\"PS Gives Health Tips\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">PS Gives Health Tips<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p> 4 May 2011 Ministry of Health Permanent Secretary Peter Mwaba has said health care will be incomplete if non-communicable diseases, among them, asthma, diabetes and high blood pressure are not prioritised.
