Rick Springfield, the Australian singer-songwriter best known for his track ‘Jessie’s Girl’, was arrested in Malibu on Sunday evening (1st May 2011) on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol. Rick Springfield was pulled over in his 1963 Corvette around 8pm near the Pacific Coast Highway and Trancas Canyon Road, reports the Los Angeles Times.<\/span><\/p>\n

Steve Whitmore, spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the arrest, saying, “He made a manoeuvre away from the light and it prompted them to stop and pull him over”. After deputies had stopped the soap actor turned musician, they smelt alcohol on his breath and asked him to complete a breathalyser test. The 61-year-old blew a reading of 0.10%, the legal limit in California is 0.08%. Springfield was subsequently arrested and taken to custody at the Malibu\/Lost Hills Station. After sobering up, the singer was released on $5,000 bond. Earlier on Sunday evening, Springfield had appeared at the Los Angeles Festival of Books promoting his new memoir ‘Late, Late at Night’. The singer had joked that he would “take his pants off” to keep one bored audience member interested.<\/span><\/p>\n

As well as his number-one smash hit ‘Jessie’s Girl’, Rick Springfield is also known for playing ‘Dr Noak Drake’ in the long running daytime drama ‘General Hospital’. He first played the character between 1981 and 1983 before reprising the role in 2005.<\/span><\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n
