{"id":416346,"date":"2011-05-03T13:57:50","date_gmt":"2011-05-03T13:57:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.ghanamma.net\/2011\/05\/03\/mitchell-to-fight-murray-in-july\/"},"modified":"2011-05-03T13:57:50","modified_gmt":"2011-05-03T13:57:50","slug":"mitchell-to-fight-murray-in-july","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.ghanamma.com\/2011\/05\/03\/mitchell-to-fight-murray-in-july\/","title":{"rendered":"Mitchell to fight Murray in July"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><div readability=\"71.3439693682\"><span><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"http:\/\/news.bbcimg.co.uk\/media\/images\/52266000\/jpg\/_52266743_mitch_murray226.jpg\" width=\"226\" height=\"170\" alt=\"Kevin Mitchell (left) and John Murray\" \/> Mitchell (left) was supposed to meet Murray in April<\/span> <\/p>\n<p>European lightweight champion John Murray will fight Kevin Mitchell on 9 July in London, promoter Frank Warren has announced.<\/p>\n<p>The British pair were set to fight in April but Essex fighter Mitchell pulled out after <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/sport1\/hi\/boxing\/9403596.stm\">a pay dispute with Warren<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Ex-British champion Mitchell, 26, last fought in May 2010 when he was <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/sport1\/hi\/boxing\/8684261.stm\">stopped in three rounds by Michael Katsidis<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Manchester&#8217;s Murray, also 26 and a former British and Commonwelath champion, is unbeaten in 31 bouts.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I thought Mitchell had bottled it once and for all when he turned down the opportunity to fight me last month,&#8221; said Murray.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;But I am glad he has finally put pen to paper as this fight has been a long time coming and, apart from the world title, this is the only meaningful challenge left for me in the UK.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Dagenham&#8217;s Mitchell said: &#8220;Murray&#8217;s done well but he hasn&#8217;t faced me yet and, if he had, we wouldn&#8217;t keep hearing about his unbeaten record.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I was 31-0 too, with more stoppages than him, until I lost out in my 32nd fight, which he will too.
